Films of the Jewish East End
Morning: Documentaries. East Endings (a lunchtime conversation in which entertaining and well-known characters reminisce about the East End of their childhoods), Vanishing Street (the story of Hessel Street market) and Wandering Star (bringing the Yiddish theatre back to life).
Actor Barry Davis makes a personal appearance to read a famous Yiddish poem about Hessel Street market and to pay tribute to Fiddler on the Roof star Anna Tzelniker, one of the last links with the old Yiddish theatre, who died recently.
Afternoon: Personal appearance by playwright and poet Bernard Kops, who introduces two of his films, originally screened on the ITV network. Just One Kid won a Silver Hugo Award at the Chicago Film Festival. It's a Lovely Day Tomorrow was nominated for an International Emmy Award for Drama Series and has at its centre the Bethnal Green tube disaster of 1943.
